Cavriglia

Cavriglia s'étend au sommet d'une colline qui domine le Valdarno, en bordure du Chianti. Cette petite ville paisible est moins connue des touristes, mais offre un bon choix de services et d'activités. L'origine de Cavriglia remonte à la période étrusque, mais la ville connut son véritable essor à l'époque romaine. L'église la Pieve di San Giovanni Battista témoigne de son passé romain. Cavriglia devint une étape importante le long de la voie romaine qui reliait la vallée du Valdarno à celle de Greve in Chianti. Au Moyen Âge, le château Montaio Castello représenta le bastion le plus important de la région. Il fut entièrement détruit lors des conflits qui opposèrent les Guelfes et les Gibelins en 1252, mais fut reconstruit et servit de point de défense pour la région de Florence. Au début des années 1800, les divers petits hameaux entourant Cavriglia furent réunis pour créer la commune de Cavriglia.
